Sludge Reduction

Overview:  An Iowa Wastewater Treatment Facility has a three pond lagoon system that receives 250,000 GPD influent.  Sludge levels are 26” – 32” in 5’ deep lagoons and sludge removal is required.

Solution:  Four Model 600 MBD units are installed totalling 12 HP.  Within 14 months sludge is reduced to an average of 3” – an 80 – 90% reduction.  During the treatment period no draining or sludge removal takes place.  In the ensuing 5+ years water quality requirements are met with no growth in sludge levels.
